What do you buy?

If it's precious metal or fine craftsmanship, we'll almost certainly buy it - even broken, unworn, or unidentified. That includes gold of any carat and colour (9ct to 24ct, yellow, white or rose), silver of any purity, scrap and broken gold, sovereigns, Britannias, Krugerrands and gold bars, diamond and gemstone jewellery, luxury watches (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega, Cartier and others, with or without papers), designer handbags, and antique, vintage and inherited pieces. We don't buy gold leaf, gold dust, gold-plated or rolled-gold items, or gold teeth.

How will I get paid?

By bank transfer, on the same day you accept our offer - usually within hours. No fees, no deductions, no cheque-clearing wait. The figure we quote is the figure that lands in your account.

How does selling to you work?

Accepted Answer

Three routes - pick what suits you. One: a private appointment at our Ascot office on St George's Lane, where everything is weighed and tested in front of you. Two: a home visit by appointment across Berkshire, Surrey and West London - the usual route for collections or where travel is difficult. Three: insured post via Royal Mail Special Delivery. From first photo to money in your account, the typical timeline is two to four working days - same-day if you visit us.

How do I find the carat of my gold?

Look for the hallmark - the tiny official stamps, usually somewhere discreet like the inside of a ring band (a magnifying glass helps). The purity number tells you the carat: 375 means 9ct, 585 means 14ct, 750 means 18ct, 916 means 22ct, and 990 or 999 means 24ct.

What if my gold has no hallmark?

No problem - older pieces, imported jewellery and much 22ct Asian gold carry no UK hallmark. We test unhallmarked items in front of you, at no charge, and quote from the tested purity. A missing stamp never means a lower price for the same metal.

How do your prices compare with other gold buyers?

Accepted Answer

High-street gold counters typically pay 50-70% of the spot price; even large online buyers often sit around 70%. Our per-gram rates are published live on our gold calculator so you can check them against the spot price yourself before you contact us - we're comfortable being checked. And because we're specialists rather than a melt-everything operation, signed, period and gem-set pieces are priced on their jewellery value, which can be a multiple of their weight value.

Are there any hidden fees? Will the quote change?

The written figure we give you is the figure we pay - no admin fees, no testing fees, no handling deductions, no revising the offer once your items arrive. A written offer stays open while you think; if the gold market moves significantly before you decide, we requote transparently - in either direction.

Does it matter if my item is in poor condition?

For weight-priced gold, not at all - broken, tangled or worn gold prices the same per gram. For watches, signed jewellery and handbags, condition does affect value, and we'll show you exactly how in the written breakdown. One tip: never polish, repair or clean a piece before a valuation - amateur restoration usually removes value, especially on antiques.

What happens to diamonds and gemstones in my jewellery?

This is where we differ from most postal gold buyers - and it matters. Many melt-value buyers remove your stones and discard them, paying you nothing for them. We value stones properly: diamonds are assessed on the Four Cs (certificates help, GIA especially), and quality gemstones are priced into the offer. A diamond ring should never be sold for the weight of its band. If a stone genuinely carries no market value, we tell you before anything is agreed - and you're welcome to keep it.

How can I estimate the weight of my gold?

As a rough guide: a small ring is 3-5g, a wedding band 5-10g, a thin bracelet 8-12g, a thick bracelet 20g or more, a thin chain 10-15g, a heavy chain 25g or more, a chain with pendant 6-12g, a pair of earrings 3-5g, and a 22ct bangle 15-30g. Yes. Broken gold, scrap gold and damaged jewellery can still hold significant value. We assess by weight and verified purity.
