• Can you come to a Wentworth Estate address?

  Yes - home visits to the estate are routine for us and often the sensible route for collections or high-value single pieces. We arrange a specific time, bring identification, and nothing leaves your possession without written acknowledgement. Estate security protocols are familiar territory.

• I am selling several pieces as part of a downsize - how does that work?

  We treat a collection as a set of individual valuations, not a job lot. Each piece is weighed, assessed and priced separately with a written breakdown, so you can choose to sell some pieces and keep others. For larger collections we usually recommend a home visit so nothing needs to travel.

• How do your offers compare with a London saleroom?

  An auction consignment can take months and carries seller’s commission; our offer is a net figure, paid same-day if you accept. For signed and important pieces we price against current auction results - if we believe a piece would genuinely do better at auction, we say so.

• Is the valuation really without obligation?

  Completely. No fee for the inspection, a written figure that is valid for 24 hours, and no follow-up pressure; if you come back later we simply price the piece again at the rate on the day. Most Wentworth introductions come by word of mouth, which only works if every conversation is left open.

• Do you only deal in important pieces, or can I sell an ordinary gold chain?

  An ordinary chain is just as welcome. 9ct, 18ct and 22ct are tested, weighed in front of you and priced by carat and gram at the rate we pay that day, broken or not, and our gold calculator will give you a guide figure before you come. A few minutes at the office is all it takes.

• What paperwork is involved in selling gold bars or bullion coins?

  Photo identification, and for larger sales a recent proof of address, because we buy under the UK anti-money-laundering rules. Original invoices and assay certificates are helpful but not essential. You receive a signed purchase document listing each bar or coin, its weight and the price paid, which is the record your accountant will ask for.

• Do you pay cash for gold on larger sales?

  No. Cash is for smaller amounts only. Larger sales are paid by instant bank transfer, sent while we are still with you and usually in your account within seconds, which is safer for a household and leaves a clean record for both sides. You are paid the same day you accept the figure.

• Do you cover Thorpe, Lyne and Longcross as well as the estate?

  Yes. Thorpe, Lyne, Longcross, Trumps Green and Stroude are all within ten to fifteen minutes of the office, and Longcross and Virginia Water stations are both on the direct line to Ascot. Home visits are by appointment anywhere in GU25 and the neighbouring KT16 and TW20 villages.
