Where can I sell gold in Chertsey?
With us. Come to our office in Ascot, about 20 minutes from Chertsey, or ask us to come to your home in KT16 or KT15. You can also post a small piece by Royal Mail Special Delivery. Your gold is tested and weighed in front of you, or photographed on the scales if you posted it. There is no fee, and you do not have to sell.
Can I get cash for gold in Chertsey?
Yes, for smaller amounts you can be paid in cash at the appointment. Bigger sums are paid by instant bank transfer while you are with us. It is usually in your account within seconds, and it gives you a record of the sale. Either way you are paid the same day, and never by cheque.
Do you buy scrap gold?
Yes. We are scrap gold buyers as much as jewellery buyers. Snapped chains, odd earrings, bent rings, old watch cases, dental gold, gold with no hallmark. Scrap gold is paid by carat and weight, so the condition makes no difference. Bring the whole tin. We will pick out what is gold, tell you what is not, and there is no charge for looking.
What is the price per gram for 9ct, 18ct and 22ct gold today?
It changes through the day with the gold market, so we do not print it here. What we pay today for 9ct, 14ct, 18ct and 22ct gold is on our gold calculator. To find your carat, look for the small stamp: 375 is 9ct, 585 is 14ct, 625 is 15ct, 750 is 18ct and 916 is 22ct. Weigh your gold on kitchen scales, put the carat and the grams in, and you have a guide price before you leave the house.
Why is my ring worth less than I paid for it?
Because the shop price was never just the gold. The price of a new ring covers the making, the shop and 20% VAT, and none of that comes back when you sell it. What is left is the gold, and that is what gold buyers pay for. The exceptions are signed pieces, good diamonds and older jewellery in original condition. We look for those first and price them for what they are, not by weight.
Do you buy sovereigns, gold coins and gold bars?
Yes. Sovereigns and half sovereigns are the gold coins we see most from Chertsey, often one coin left by a grandparent. We also buy Krugerrands, Britannias and gold bars. Common coins are paid on their gold content at what we pay that day. A sovereign with a rare date or mint mark is worth more as a coin, so please do not clean it first.
Can I sell a diamond ring or an engagement ring?
Yes. The diamond is priced on its size and quality, and the ring itself on its gold or platinum. Bring the certificate or receipt if you still have them. If the stones are small, as in a lot of older cluster rings, we will tell you straight that most of the value is in the gold.
Is a jewellery valuation free, and do I have to sell?
It is free and you do not have to sell. You leave with a written figure for each piece, valid for 24 hours. One thing to know first: it is a selling price, meaning what we would actually pay you. That is lower than the replacement value on an insurance valuation, which is a different thing.
Do you cover Addlestone, Ottershaw and New Haw?
Yes. Addlestone, Ottershaw, New Haw, Row Town and Woodham are all about 25 minutes from the office. We also do home visits across KT15 and KT16 by appointment, usually within the week. Addlestone station is on the same line as Chertsey, so you can come by train too. Change at Virginia Water for Ascot.
Can I sell gold for my mum or dad?
Yes, as long as they are happy for you to sell it. Bring your own photo ID. If you have power of attorney, or you are the executor of a will, bring that paperwork too. We have to record who we buy from under UK anti-money-laundering rules. A home visit often suits this best, because the owner can be in the room and nothing has to travel.
What do I need to bring?
Your gold, and photo ID such as a passport or driving licence. For bigger sales, bring a recent proof of address too. Boxes, receipts and certificates help with watches, diamonds and signed jewellery. That is all.
Do you buy silver and watches as well as gold?
Yes. Sterling silver is paid by weight, and good hallmarked pieces by what they are. Watches are priced on the model, the condition and whether you still have the box and papers, never by weight. Bring them with your gold and we will look at everything in one go.
